My Teaching Principles

My aim as a teacher is to inspire and encourage a love of music and piano playing that will last a life-time. You can always be sure that my approach will be fresh, drawing on my daily experience with the piano, and not from a pre-determined text-book-like method. My purpose as a teacher is to continuously discover new possibilities and help you realise your potential.

In particular, I will:
- introduce you to some wonderful music
- provide a positive and friendly environment that will help you achieve your best
- always teach at your pace
- be supportive of all your ambitions and aspirations
- always welcome your feedback: comments, criticisms, advice, and of course, praise!

I will also help to:
- develop your musicality and technique through "real" music, not just exercises

- develop your aural awareness (listening skills)
- nurture and expand your personal skills of concentration, memory, commitment, and perseverence
- show you how to practise so you can learn how to teach yourself!
- encourage you to be pleased with what you have acheived!

I also believe that performance can be an amazing experience! This is why I arrange regular informal/fun concerts to offer all my students the opportunity to perform (should they wish to) on a beautiful concert grand piano to a warm and friendly audience. These concerts are always hugely popular!!
